The problem with Windows 11 slowing down certain NVMe SSDs was first noticed a few months ago when the system was still in beta.
As of some time later, the issue has not been fixed and has recently been revealed once again by a number of Reddit users. As a result, Microsoft has finally acknowledged this problem and is working on fixing it.
In fact, the company is actually pretty close to releasing the patch. In a support document, Microsoft outlines the reason behind the lag and says it’s related to the NTFS USN journal and triggering unnecessary actions every time a write operation occurs. Interestingly enough, the USN journal is always active on the C: drive.
Optional Update KB5007262A should fix this and will be available soon and given the extent of the problem, it is highly recommended that users install the update as soon as it becomes available. Of course this update is mandatory, especially for users running the OS from a fast NVMe SSD.
