Russia officially report that they block 80 million people from Instagram. That report is officially announced by government of Russia.
Why this is happened?
Early week in March 2022, Russia Said will block Instagram from their country. This is answer and respond Meta’s decision. While, they allow Facebook and Instagram users to post violent content from Russian troops.
Russia itself continues to restrict access to several online platforms in an attempt to control the flow of information about the war. In addition to Instagram, Russia has already banned Facebook and Twitter, as quoted by The Verge.

Adam Mosseri said on his twitter that incident cause 80 million people can’t access Instagram at that time. “
On Monday, Instagram will be blocked in Russia. This decision will cut 80 million in Russia off from one another, and from the rest of the world. As ~80% of people in Russia follow an Instagram account outside their country. This is wrong.” – Adam Mosseri
Over the weekend, several Russian influencers posted farewell messages to their followers. Along with that, they also advise their followers to follow them on other platforms, or download a virtual private network (VPN) to get around the restrictions imposed by the government.
Reporting from The Washington Post, a Russian fashion influencer, Karina Nigay complained about this government blocking and called Instagram her job.
“Imagine you have just been completely fired from your job and you receive no income at all, but at the same time you have expenses for your family, for your team if you have subordinates, and then suddenly you have nothing to pay your team,” – he said
Can people bypass that restrictions?
While Russia block and restrict Instagram on their country, people can still access through secure ways like use VPNs and Tor to access blocked Western social networks. Also other social media launch their official feature to help Russian people to access that social media like twitter.
